How to Use Organic Archive
1. How to Search
You can search for organic compounds using two methods:
- By Name: Enter the common name (e.g., "Ethanol", "Aspirin", "Caffeine"). Spelling variations are often handled, but standard names work best.
- By Formula: Enter the chemical formula (e.g., "C2H6O"). Note that formulas can be ambiguous (multiple isomers), so name search is recommended for specific compounds.
2. Understanding Results
Once you select a compound, you'll see a detailed results page containing:
- 3D Structure Viewer: An interactive molecule viewer. Click and drag to rotate, scroll to zoom in/out.
- Key Properties: Molecular weight, formula, and physical properties.
- Biological Data: Information on function, toxicity, and pathways (sourced from ChEBI/PubChem).
- External Links: Direct links to authoritative databases for further reading.
3. Troubleshooting
This is often caused by a network interruption or rigorous strict browser privacy settings
blocking API calls.
Try: Checking your internet connection or disabling "Strict" tracking protection for
this site.
We might not have that specific compound indexed yet.
Try: Searching by common name (e.g., "Aspirin") instead of IUPAC name, or use the
"Request a Compound" feature on the search page.
The 3D viewer requires WebGL.
Try: Updating your graphics drivers or enabling "Hardware Acceleration" in your browser
settings.
